Winter always seems to sneak up on us before we’re ready. One minute we’re soaking in golden afternoons, the next we’re wondering if it’s socially acceptable to wear a duvet to a meeting. But here’s the thing: winter doesn’t have to mean pressing pause on life’s joys.
At True North, we see the seasonal chill as an invitation to turn inward, slow down, and focus on the rituals that keep us warm, inside and out. It’s also the small things: the afternoon sun on your face, a quick getaway, or the ritual of wrapping up in an oversized dramatic scarf. It’s pure theatrical joy under the layers of warmth shielding you from the crisp breath of June air.
Winter is also a time to check in with ourselves. How are we moving through the season? Are we being gentle with our energy, kind to our bodies, and intentional about rest? The colder months offer a perfect opportunity to reset our pace and re-centre our focus. In the quiet, we often rediscover what matters most.
Here’s what’s keeping us grounded, glowing, and inspired this winter.
Winter self-care survival kit

Sip, savour, strengthen
When it comes to winter nourishment, broth is the overachiever of comfort food. Sip it solo, soup it up, or just pretend you’re in a wellness retreat. It’s collagen-rich, immune-boosting goodness in a cup.
Make your own with this Taste.co.za bone broth recipe, or cheat (with pride) and grab Woolies’ Heat & Sip range. Their Vegan-friendly broth, infused with shiitake mushrooms, is full of flavour. No judgment, just cosy convenience.
Vitamin drips: The IV league
With more time indoors and sniffle season in full swing, we’re leaning into IV bars and vitamin drips to stay energised and event-ready. Whether we’re boosting before a big event or recovering after a multi-day build, this is one of our best-kept wellness secrets. Best part? You can bring wellness straight to your workplace with concierge IV drips.
IV vitamin drips are more than just a trend. They’re tailored, high-dose nutrient infusions that support everything from immune health to fatigue recovery. Think of it as a personal recharge station when life’s demands don’t slow down just because the sun sets early.
Try: The IV Bar, The IV Lounge, or The Drip Clinic.
Glow
Winter skin needs a little extra love. The SKOON BFF Sleepover Hydrating Mask is our go-to for overnight hydration and that post-slumber glow-up. Perfect for long flights and travelling.
Find it at: Faithful to Nature.
Vitamin D, naturally
Did you know that around 60% of South African adults are low on vitamin D? A daily dose of sunshine (just 10–15 mins) can do wonders for your mood, your joints, and your immune system. Especially in winter, when the days are shorter and we tend to stay indoors more, it helps to make the most of every ray.
Just step outside, breathe deeply, and let nature reset your system. Winter sunlight is scarce; chase it like it’s golden treasure.

At its heart, the book is a celebration of a timeless truth: people simply want to feel cared for. Comforts we’re loving
Throws & blankets: Discover these beautifully crafted blankets and throws by Iconomy — a collective of artists, designers, and creatives united by a love for thoughtful, well-made design.
Warm drinks: You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy chai. And honestly, that’s pretty much the same thing.I’m completely hooked on making my own. It’s my daily ritual — hot when I need comfort, and when the day calls for something bold, I throw in a little extra spice for that dark, punchy kick.Bonus: it looks ridiculously cute in a glass jar and makes the perfect gift.
Daria’s Chai

Ingredients:
- 4 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 3 Tbsp ground ginger
- 4 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 Tbsp ground black pepper, if you like less spice, you can reduce this amount
- 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 3/4 tsp ground cloves
Store in a glass jar for up to 3 months in a cupboard.
Instructions:
1. Add all spices to a small jar and shake or stir thoroughly to combine.
2. To make a HOT chai latte, add the suggested amount of Chai Mix, sweetener of choice, and 2 tsp water to a mug (or small blender).
3. Use a spoon to mix spices into water (or skip this step if blending). Then add warmed milk/mylk to your mug (or blender) and stir (or blend) to combine.
Note: The spice mix can settle to the bottom, but blending really helps bind it, or you can just stir as you drink
To enjoy your chai:
- 1-1 1/2 tsp chai mix
- 1 Tbsp maple syrup (or other sweetener to taste)
- 1 cup of oat milk is a fave, but normal milk or alternative mylks work brilliantly
Stay warm, stay kind, and don’t forget to enjoy the magic in the quiet. Here’s to finding joy in the slower pace, the deeper breaths, and the small moments that make winter wonderful.
Be Kind,
