Re-alignment: Doing what matters most

If there’s one thing I’ve come to appreciate more and more, it’s the importance of balance—not just in work, but in life. And not the perfectly curated kind we see on our multitude of feeds, but the kind that actually works in real life that lets us focus on what truly matters, right when it matters.

The world of marketing and events moves fast. Last year, I felt the pressure to do more, reach more, and deliver faster. But if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that constantly chasing ‘more’ doesn’t always lead to better. So, this year, I’m approaching things differently. I’m taking a step back, prioritising meaningful connections over constant motion, and focusing on what feels purposeful and right.

Balance isn’t about doing less. It’s about doing what matters, with purpose. Whether it’s how we engage with our teams, how we connect with our audiences, or how we navigate the everyday chaos of life, it’s about being deliberate. Purposeful attention over work-life balance.

To me, finding balance in 2025 means doing what matters, most.

The myth of work-life balance

We’ve all heard the phrase ‘work-life balance.’ But let’s be real, life rarely splits into neat halves. Instead, I’ve learned that real balance comes from knowing when to lean in and when to step back – being fully present in the moments that count.

Some days, work takes centre stage, and that’s okay. Other times, it’s about pausing to give space for creativity, reflection, or just breathing. When we trust that flow, we work smarter, create better, and build deeper, more authentic connections.

Building authentic connections

Regardless, the one thing that always remains constant is the power of human connection. In a world overflowing with noise, the brands and events that truly stand out are the ones that feel genuine, personal, and real.

Here’s what we’re doubling down on this year:

Personalisation that goes beyond the basics: We’re helping brands create experiences that speak directly to their audiences in ways that feel relevant, meaningful, and truly connected.

Creating spaces for real engagement: It’s not just about making an impression. Now it’s about fostering real interactions whether that’s in-person, online, or somewhere in between.

Transparency and trust: People crave authenticity. We’re focused on helping brands communicate in ways that feel honest, human, and true to their values.

What’s new at True North

This year, we’re refining how we help our clients create deeper connections:

Innovative event formats: We’re rethinking traditional event structures, blending the best of virtual and in-person experiences to craft something fresh and immersive.

Content with purpose: Forget generic messaging. We’re leaning into storytelling that resonates, ensuring brands connect in ways that build long-term loyalty.

Wellness and mindfulness in events: Because high-impact moments shouldn’t come at the cost of well-being. We’re integrating mindfulness practices to ensure events leave people feeling energised, not exhausted.

We’d love to hear how you’re thinking about balance and connection this year. Let’s keep the conversation going. Reach out, let’s chat, brainstorm, and create something meaningful together.

Raising a🍸to women in the industry

Every month we sit down and chat with some of the incredible women who work in this crazy industry.

The Thinkers, Creators, Doers, and Deciders.
The women who inspire us.

This month we sat down with our very own Namhla Lungwengwe, Project Manager at True North Agency.

She describes herself as a professional chaos coordinator. But the truth is – she’s an events dynamo whose youthful spirit belies her impressive track record of events. When she’s not bringing events to life, she’s embracing newlywed adventures and savoring her downtime.

1. What gets you out of bed in the morning?
The sound of a boiling kettle, second to money of course.

2. Where do you go to find inspiration?
Going to events I didn’t have to produce. Seeing what’s fresh and exciting in the industry firsthand helps inspire creative ideas for future events.

3. Best onsite event hack?
A well-stocked onsite event kit is essential.

4. Cocktail or Coffee?
Cocktail, any day!

5. What’s in your handbag?
Laptop + charger + mouse, pair of shades, two lip glosses, 2x notebooks, daily planner, power bank, hand cream, box of tea, extra pair of earrings, wet wipes, makeup brushes, anti-bacterial ointment, mini flask, headsets, lozenges and pocket tissues….ooh and another bag!

BONUS: What song is on repeat on your playlist?
Nasempini by Kabza de Small feat Ayanda Ntazi

For years we were told the great secret that all women hold can be found in their handbag. Ask anyone who’s been asked to dig something out of another person’s handbag, and all sorts of social norms get thrown up.

I love the idea of what’s in someone’s handbag as a gauge of what their every day looks like – continue to follow what goes on inside the handbags of the team, partners, and clients in upcoming newsletters.

Here’s to a year of balance, connection, and doing what truly matters. Let’s create something meaningful together.

Be Kind,
